Purpose of Laws(not scientific)

Let us discuss the capability of laws and the applicability of Bible in the modern life with respect to laws. Bible is divided into two parts also called as testaments. They are Old Testament and New Testament. Let us discuss the two in more detail.

God created man in his own image on the sixth day. He planted a garden in the east and told him not to eat the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. But man disobeyed gods command and ate the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Now man with the knowledge of good and evil still didn’t choose to do that is right. One thing that might have happened is that the line of differentiation of good and evil as understood by man and that considered by God, might have changed significantly.

As a result, after the flood God had to give the Law directly to mankind through Moses. The law which god gave to Moses is similar to the laws that we have in our current government system. The punishments which were specified during those times are similar to that we have now. Unintentional crimes were punished by sending the people to refuge city from which they shouldn’t come out. This is like the modern day prison. I do agree that prisons did exist during those times, but the privileges the current prisoners have didn’t exist for the prisoners during those times.

The question is, was the law able to remove the crime/sin from the land? The answer is no. Some might argue that if the current technical advancements (which make information to be broadcasted easily) were available during their time, the law would have followed properly. i.e., if everyone knew the law which god gave to them, then they would have obeyed the law. But that begs the question, is the law being followed by everyone now. The answer for this question is also no. Crimes are taking place in all places. The law has no power for preventing the crimes/sin from happening but it merely judges the crimes/sin that is done. Thus Bible clearly says thousands of years ago that the law has no effect in preventing the crime from taking place. The law simply tried to instill fear into the people so that they wouldn’t do any crime/sin. Our current world is still stuck in this place and it can’t come out of it. This is what the Old Testament is all about

Now the question is what can make a person do that is right. The answer is to bring the change from the inside. It’s not about what we should tell him what is crime and what is not, but to change their attitude from the intention to do which is wrong to do that is right. It is not punishment that changes a person but repentance through forgiveness (not just forgiveness) which can change a person. This is what New Testament is all about. It brings about the change into the heart. All have sinned. But just by doing right things won’t make him a good person. The attitude to do sin/crime remains. Only the blood of Jesus can cleanse a person from sin. The Holy Spirit can change the attitude of a person from the intention to do that is wrong to do that which is right. Let’s pray to Jesus to cleanse our hearts today and let the Holy Spirit to take away the attitude to do sin

Importance of Saving

Gen 41:34 Let Pharaoh do this, and let him appoint officers over the land, and take up the fifth part of the land of Egypt in the seven plenteous years.

Many people claim that the bible is not applicable to the modern world. They say that its old book and it is of no use in the modern world. But Bible is relevant even today for our moral values and our present situations.

Today I am going to bring to you a very old but true incident from the bible and discuss how it is still relevant to our life even today. I will put before you the story of Joseph and how much it is applicable to today’s life. Our chapter of discussion will be from Genesis 41 and 47:13-24. A short gist of the incident is as follows.

The King Pharaoh of Egypt has two dreams and he is very disturbed by these dreams. He wants someone to interpret the dream for him. But nobody is able to interpret the dream. The chief butler informs the Pharaoh that butler’s dream was interpreted by Joseph (who is in prison) two years back. Pharaoh immediately summons Joseph. Joseph comes before the dreams and listens to the dream and God gives him the interpretation and he gives Pharaoh the right interpretation of the dream. He says that there is going to be seven years of plenty and then the seven years of famine. Then he tells the King Pharaoh to gather a fifth of the land’s produce and gather them during the seven years of plenty and use them during the next seven years of Famine.

Each and every month we earn our salaries. The government demands that we pay about a tenth of our salary as income tax. Some even don’t pay that much. The remaining ninety percent is with us to spend for our livelihood. This is similar to the Pharaoh gathering one fifth of the land’s produce from the people into the barn. Everybody paid it. The importance of the issue is not with the fifth or tenth that we give to the government but the remaining that is with us. During Joseph’s time, we can infer that people didn’t believe in Joseph’s interpretation.
Let us discuss how the grain may have been used by the Egyptians during the period of plenty. The 20 percent went as tax for Pharaoh. (This may be the earliest form of taxation and can prove that taxes were based from the bible). The other needs may be for food (for themselves, their servants and their livestock), for sowing and to meet the basic needs like shelter and clothing. Attributing a twenty percent on each would mean they would still be left with 20 percent. But those seven years were years of plenty which meant that whatever they sow, they would have received a minimum of 10 fold increases(best output a ground could provide).Let us assume that for eating they spent 20 percent for sowing some 10 Percent. Of the remaining 50 percent let us say that they used another 20 percent for the basic needs like clothing and shelter. Still 30 percent of their resources were available which I think the people misused for their pleasure. Some may question that even if they saved 30 percent how can you say that it will be enough for seven years of severe famine. The answer is that if pharaoh saved just a fifth of the produce and could feed the entire world, then saving the 30 % of the produce would certainly have saved them during famine. The problem is that they didn’t. They never tried to save during the years of plenty. But rather they spend all they had on themselves.
In the same way, we even spend so much for our pleasure than saving them. We are paying on an average about 15 percent as tax to the government and the remaining we spend for us. We never know when a crisis is going to come. So it is better that we get prepared for any crisis. It is true that the Egyptians never imagined the severity of the famine. In the same way it is better that we start saving all as much as we can without compromising on our basic needs. If we don’t then we might enter into severe problems.
The fifth of the land’s produce was not meant to be used for Egypt but rather as blessing for all other nations of the world. But since the Egyptians didn’t save any, they had to buy food from Pharaoh. As a result, they came to Joseph (who was second in command) and spent all their money for food. Next they bought food for their cattle and then they sold their lands for food thereby becoming like servants to Pharaoh. Even today (after about 3000 years) this is exactly what is happening. When we are in need of money we keep our lands, jewels in our bank for money. If we are unable to pay then we lose the land. Nowadays it has become very easier for us to get loans that we try to buy all that we desire with loans, low interest EMI. It is the right time that we realize that we must save each and every hard earned penny for our uncertain future. Insurances might help us during crisis, but off course they take your hard earned money for something that might happen rarely. I am neutral on the issue of insuring. If we don’t think about saving money then we will lose all our rights (money, possessions, and fundamental rights) just like the Egyptians during Joseph’s time.
Let us start saving and keep our rights and possessions with ourselves and not sell it to rich people(and government) by not saving.

All Heavens Declare

We can see in this link that the vibrations in the sun has been recorded and speeded up in frequency, so that we can hear these sounds. To me, it appears to glorify the creator just like the bible hints at psalms 19:1-3

Criminals Getting Younger?

When we look at this news article we can find Kids as young as 12 are becoming murderers and involving rape, etc. I would like to try and understand the root cause of this is happening. They are filled with lust and hatred. When we look at the source where they got that lust and hatred(or information on how to do those crimes), i could possibly think of four sources.

  1. Friends: When we say they get the information from friends(bad Company), then we are into cyclic reasoning. (where did their friends get? Again friends?). Some might say Parents. But i don't find it convincing to say that parents teach their kids how to do those crimes. Some blame it on parents cause they aren't controlling their kids. I would rather say that even if they did control, there is nothing the parents can do when they are not present in the house. May be parents didn't control, but that isn't everything.
  2. Computer games: The kids have unlimited access to computer games. Nowadays the games are trying to be very realistic which when imitated in a real world can be very dangerous. Some times the Media make it a big news when some good thing happens after playing games. The reason for this is that the media will always be interested to cover something that is done out of the Box. In other words, usually it doesn't happen that way. Games like Car Racing also has bad effects on kids. Some games come with the Mature rating but in India there is no restriction as to who can play those games. The games can be easily downloaded or retrieved from friends. So this could be a very good source of information for their acts.
  3. Movies: This is a very good source for kids to become criminals. In some movies, we could find that its OK to go against the Police , to attack them. Most of the time, its the Writer’s and director’s view that is portrayed in the movie and almost everyone who watches the movie will accept the viewpoint at the end. Coming to content of the movies, its most horrifying to see how coolly then bring about the seducing of the women and the anger of the hero when someone tries to steal his love. In some cases they also portray that its OK to commit suicide, which is always a crime. The movies go through the review board and a rating comes with a movie. Most of the times, Indian movies are rated as U/A. I feel that the rating is done as to whether the kids will be able to watch it or not and not whether they should be allowed to watch. Even if they are not allowed to watch in theaters, its highly probably that these movies can be watched in TV without much filtering. If these movies aren't shown, the songs are shown which often contains women discriminating themselves.I just cant think what would happen if those actresses can walk on a normal college road without any security accompanying them. After all its money that matters most and neither culture nor religious beliefs(moral values). Some might think that's its just entertainment. We shouldn't take any values from movies. I don't agree to that. The reason is, even if you don't believe it, some values will be taken from a movie and mostly it will be bad values. Sometimes, when i speak to my friends, my friends will start laughing suddenly. I will wonder as to why they laughed. Later i would realize that they would have taken it double meaning. If its easy to take a bad view from such a small sentence, then i don't find it convincing to say that movies are taken just for entertainment. And its common to think that those good values(if any) of a movie is for others and not for themselves. The two aspect which almost all movies bring about is action and romance. These two are the main reasons why those kids became corrupt. When u continue to view action content, its possible to see that
  4. Internet. Best Source. No Comments.
OK. A kid has become Bad. SO what? Does he do it with everyone on the road? I dont think so.
Next, I would like to bring about how the girls are nowadays. Almost everyone these days have a tendency to imitate the western culture. That’s fine provided they dress modestly. But if they do anything with the expectation of attracting guys then one may easily judge the mind complexities that a normal guy have to go through. The real problem of it is that more than the good guys getting attracted, the bad guys get attracted easily. For the good guys don't get deceived easily. That is the reason why these kinds of crimes take place. Its not wrong to look good. But its wrong in trying to attract others when they are not in business. I don't know where it will end. It all depends on how your thought process is. If You believe in god, then you will at least think that you are doing something wrong. In some cases even that doesn't happen.

To summarize, the reasons why those kids might have gone corrupt may be movies, computer games, Internet and the victim herself.

PS. I might have missed a few other sources as well. If you have anything to add on or criticize please comment. Please Ignore my grammatical mistakes.

Starting with a Bang

I just don’t know where to start. Hmmm... Well!! There's nothing special about this post. This is how I spent my new year. Well as usual we went to Church on New Year’s Eve. We were in Salem. We came back to home at about 4 pm... Slept till 8 or so... Then I went out to buy some sweet and some cakes. I had planned make my first travel on the New year... And that travel was from Salem to Chennai. I took my laptop with me. And I boarded a bus that was from Coimbatore.

At first I thought the bus is shaking terribly because of the road. Then I understood that I had taken the worst bus. The bus hardly had 10 passengers. I tried sleeping... the bus was so shaking that I couldnt sleep atleast for the first 99 % of the travel. I thought of taking the ticket to Guindy but decided to go for Tambaram. I have heard that many things have changed in Tambaram. So I wanted to see what the real change was. The journey was for 8-9 hours. The bus wasn’t delayed. After hours of sleepless journey, I finally almost reached my destination. It was hardly 20 Km for Tambaram. That meant in another 20 minutes I would reach my destination. Few minutes passed. Then it was just 5 Km. that meant it was just 5 min for my destination... After a few minutes, someone woke me up. I looked and saw it was the bus conductor. He asked me where I should get down. I told him that I had to get down at Tambaram and he told that we crossed Tambaram long back. And He told me to get down at Guindy. I got down at Guindy and walked for two Km and reached the Railway station and took a train to St Thomas Mt and then took an auto to Madipakkam. From there I walked to Keelkatalai which is another 2 kilometres and took an auto. I reached home at 11:30 pm...

That a big Bang... May be at the back...

My training in Infosys

I was put into java training. About 11 from my college were in java. I was put into the firt row of the training room. We had about 5 projects of which 4 were evaluated. The first module was HJSX for which we had Anitha as our lecture.

We usually do the project well ahead of time. I used to help JAcky do his project. My CGPA before entering java was 4.93. I was in a situation where i must get A in all modules with a exception of one module with 3 Grade points and there was one module java with 4 Grade points. When i went for Java exam, i was a little scared because if i fail in that i will miss the grade A CGPA ie 4.95 and above. some how i managed to get A in the first 3 modules. and when i entered the 4th module namely advanced Java, i got a B+ which meant i need to get A grade in the next two modules. And the next two modules were Almost theory which is not my piece of cake. But somehow i managed to get A grade in all my remaining modules. And then comes the biggest challenge of comprehensive exam and POST project. I felt the POST project as tough as there were about 3 tests and two project evaluations. i need to perform well consistently to get Grade A CGPA. It was a tough time but somehow i managed to get 85-grade A. And there i finaaly was in Grade A CGPA. Everyone used to say why are you concentrating on POST project as its not important. But i really felt that its through God's grace that i got CGPA 4.95. actually my CGPA will stand something like 4.9474.

We used to goto hotels. Once on such trip, my mobile fell from my pocket. But to my luck when we called the number some good guy replied by saying that its with me. I got my mobile back. His name was Sachin.

As soon as we completed the compre we got news that we'll be leaving to hyderabad to get trained in ES technologies. I really felt bad that i had to leave mysore. the next few days i help my friends clear the generic re compre. Though i felt bad, i was a bit enthusiastic about it. We left Mysore on May 12. Coming to hyderabad i really had a bad time. The first week i got thoat infection with fever. The second week i lost my mobile. And third important thing is that i couldnt find a good Church like the way i found in mysore. I didnt like the ES field either as it is not very challenging and its not interesting.. My brother organised concert was scheduled on June 29. My friend told me to book ticket to chennai to come for the Concert having faith in god. But my compre exam was scheduled on June 29th. Thats the 4th bad instance i had to face in Hyderabad. I got posted in hyderabad. On July 21 i Got into a project which is a non billable project.

I felt like that i got placed in a company which i didnt like initially, working in a field(ES) which i dont like and working in a place i didnt like. But one thing is that i am not earning anything for my company.

The change A Concert Can Bring!!

The change A Concert Can Bring!!

With the recently passed economic Slowdown, my brother thought about bringing a hope for the Hopeless by organising a Concert. So he called Bob Fitts, a Singer and guitarist from US. The initiative was taken by HCL (Honouring Christ the Lord). He called the musicians from NLAG (I suppose) and it was successfully conducted on 29th June 2009 at Music Academy, Chennai. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to attend this concert as i had my extended training's semester like comprehensive test in Infosys Hyderabad. Like all other concerts, they took video from three camera.

To The Community!!

With the topic of Restore 2009, the concert restored the hope among many corporate individuals. My brother encountered a lot of problems while organising for this concert including financial problems. But Our Lord and Saviour Jesus was able to meet all the needs. Thanks to the prayers. I believe the concert would have touched the hearts of many. If you have found some hope after attending this concert, please post the testimony as part of the comments.

To My computer!!

A few days after the concert my brother told me that he is planning to buy a new HDD as the previous 160 GB HDD was in no way useful. He decided to buy 1.5 TB HDD as the entire video from 3 camera and the 8 sources of audio alone took about 250 GB. The price of this 1.5 TB HDD was 7.5k. I still believe that even this 1.5 TB HDD will not meet the requirements for editing the video. And now to edit the audio he needs an Audio card. In my motherboard, Thankfully I had him purchased a 2GB RAM totalling to 4 GB RAM and a 8600 GTX 512 MB GPU last year. Otherwise, he would have bought that also. This up gradation costs nearly 15k.

Last year I compiled a video of my college life from clips captured from mobile, digital cameras. I got a GPU, and 2GB ram from my friends to compile it. After many unsuccessful attempts, I was able to make a video of about 6 minutes with the size of 12.6 GB. It consumed another 30 GB for other intermediate edits. I had to allocate an entire drive for this purpose. For those who wish to see that not so good college video, click here.

The Auction

We often used to ignore the Roadside vendors who try to sell foodstuffs and other items. Many times we just ignore these vendors. And many times we bargain for the price resulting in the much lower profit for them.
Few months back while I was on my way from Bangalore to Mysore, I met with one such vendor who brought about the interest among the purchasers. He was selling clothes. He had a companion to help him with the auction.
This salesman came inside the bus and started an auction. This attracted many of the passengers. He began to demonstrate the quality of the product and started the auction for the clothes from the suitcase which he had. The auctions went on for about 30 minutes are so. He also awarded those who took part in the auction with some petty gifts such as purse. Few people got interested in that auction and started to put forth their price. If he felt that the price wasn’t suitable for the product, give to the candidate who won. And He got down of the bus when he felt that the people lost interest in the auction.

He was able to sell cloths for more than 1000 Rs (total) which would have been a hard time to sell it on the platform. I was quite impressed with such a way of selling. While many of us try to do it in the usual way in which everyone does, this person was a little different by starting the auction.

My journey to Infosys!!!

On Friday evening in early November 2008, I got the call email from Infosys to join on December 15 2008. The following week along with Prashanth, I booked the tickets to go to Mysore on December 13th night at 9:30 pm. After booking the tickets, we were waiting for the train to go to tiruvanmiyur. I made a call to my friend. Then I asked Prashanth for my mobile -thinking I lost it- which was actually in my hand.

Few days later we got the call letter from Infosys in the courier. The day of journey to Mysore came soon. My friend Prashanth visited my house on the day of journey to get the seminar series of Kent Hovind. In evening, we took the taxi to reach central as it was getting late. When I reached the station, everyone had gone to the platform. I don’t remember the platform number. When I reached my compartment, I could see a lot of my friends like Senthur, Viswa, Arun, etc already there for send off. And after bidding heart-breaking adieu, we got into the train.

The train started to Mysore or rather I can call it as the INFOSYS train, as many passengers of that train were for Infosys. We were split into two groups in the compartment because of the seating. We went to sleep at about 12 at night. I was in the middle berth. It became very cold in early morning. Soon we began to shiver. We reached Bangalore at 5:00 Am and it was very cold in Bangalore and we couldn’t stand in the station and rest our hands on any place other than our own pockets. We reached Mysore at about 8:00 am.

We took a taxi to Infosys and reached it at about 9:00. And we were standing outside the gate for verification. We showed the necessary documents. My friend had forgotten to bring his offer letter. The security called the HR and later let my friend in. We almost got the same block with me being lucky getting the ground floor. We were quite lucky to get one of the best hostel blocks in Infosys. After getting ready we started to roam. We were a bit scared whether we might have forgotten some important documents. The first two weeks were quite boring and then the training started.

The first Saturday in Infosys, we went to Mysore palace and Zoo. A few of my friends got sick after the 4 km walk in the Zoo.  The next day, I went to Church along with my friends. I liked the church. And since then, I went to that church every Sunday.

In mid February, we completed the generic training and at the end of the month, I was put into the java Stream; the language which I never liked. Training has been good so far. I hope that I will complete with a grade A. But being here in Infosys, I don’t find any kind of stress or tension even in the least. It’s a very good environment where I always like to be.

German School Shootings

There was an incident firing in school in Germany where a 17 year old guy shot more than 20 people. With the ensuing firing by the police and the gunman, about 16 people died. It is really sad to hear such events taking place. But we are facing similar problem in much bigger scale.

The German government is now facing pressure to bring law that would enforce gun control among people (students). Do you think Gun is the culprit which did that? There is no point in blaming the gun because the purpose of the weapon is to kill or injure. And with the current scenario, everyone is keen in breaking the laws. No matter how hard the punishment may be, the youths find a thrill or adventurous to break the law and try to escape. Though these laws might reduce the level of crime, it will not eliminate the crime. But it will lead to much wilder and dangerous situation.

So what must be done to eliminate such crimes? The reason why such people take weapons is because of the hatred to others in their heart. We must find why these people have so much hatred in their heart that they don’t hesitate to kill and get killed with the weapons. It might be some unfortunate events like the unexpected loss of their dear ones (due to doctor’s fault) which could have brought them to such a state. It could also be the environment they are in; the games they play; the movies they watch. Nowadays we can see a lot of movies which quite plainly display the ways to break the law. Many movies often tell how to take the law in their hands rather than how to react quite patiently to the crimes. The more shooting and other action based games/movies a person plays, more hatred and love for weapons build in their heart and hence those terrible incidents.

Whenever a crime happens, it should never be about how to punish the criminals, but how to prevent such incidents in the future by analyzing the root cause for the crime. Analyzing the root cause is as important as punishing the culprits.

Markets in Renewable resources:

Markets in Renewable resources:

Renewable resources are those that can be created or produced even after consuming it. And non renewable resources are those that are lost after the usage. By Non-renewable business, i mean making business in resources like minerals, petroleum. And by business in renewable resources i mean textile industry, furniture,Diary products, food products. Almost all industries depend on the renewable resource.

Business in nonrenewable resources gaurantees more income compared to the renewable resources. And it doesnt sustain a country with its prestige for a long time. But having business in renewable resources may be slow but it will increase the growth of the country. It might produce less profits; but everyone is directly dependant on renewable resources.

Farming might not give you good profits but no one can live without the existance of food which we get from farms. Though the technology might bring about revolution in the agriculture, it cannot replace farm. Though the technology can provide good dresses, it cannot provide the basic materials for dressing. we are ver much dependant on nature. nearly 70% of the indian population is dependant on farming. But these numbers are reducing which might mean that our food supplies are reducing slowly(this is not the only reasong). The textile industry is another major source of income for our country. We tend to spend more on exports rather than for marketing within india.

For a country to stand on its feet, it is necessary for the country to have development in all fields. The politicians/media should necessarily publicize the importance of trading in renewable resources.

Ipl 2009

We had a wonderful time last year with the first IPL season. May be its not the first of such event but it did bring the change in the international cricket. It improved the quality of batting in all forms of cricket

This year's season will be more interesting with the signing in of few players from England namely Andrew Flintoff. There are a few challenges for the players especially with the terrorist attack on srilankan players and the november 26 terrorist attack in mumbai. This time with the security could be a issue with the parlimentary elections coming inbetween.

The most important issue i like about series like these is that the players are from different lands and its very hard for few players to get along. Its very interesting to see these player play with team spirit.

Lets just hope that this season gives much more entertainment to the viewers.

Intel's new motherboard and processor

With the increasing in competition, all companies are trying to produce new products with cool features. The main companies in the microprocessor industry are Intel and Amd.
Intel has developed a new series of motherboard and processor which are quite unique compared to other products from the same company.
The motherboard series is DX58SO. Whats so special about this product? Well, intel has changed the processor socket after a long time. There is only one processor so far that fits in it-i7 processor. This motherboard has cool features such as two pci 16x2.0 slots and one 16x 1.0 slots. The processor has 4 cores and has good ratings.
This motherboard does not have any builtin graphics core but can support any combination of sli cards.

Black Tornado

It all started late in 26th of November 2008. We had heavy rainfall in our area and it was flooding all over Tamil Nadu. We had power supply for about 6-8 hours. And we could recall the floods that ravaged this part in 2005. That is what happened in Tamil Nadu. In Mumbai, the situation was entirely different. Few terrorists came through a boat to the gateway of India and split themselves into groups. One group entered Taj Mahal Hotel, another group entered Trident Hotel and yet another entered Chatrapathi Shivaji terminus formerly called as Victoria Terminus. The terrorist then went on to seige at Narman Point later killing the jewish rabbi.

The police as usual couldnot stop the terrorist with lathis, pistols and rifles. How could they? The Chief of the ATS squad was killed. And the siege went on for two more days. The NSG commandos arrived early on the next morning and they took control of all the operations. The NSG started to clear the Hotel room by room. But unfortunately they had been verywell prepared for This long term sige. they had dried fruits and knew the layout of the hotel very well. After about 50 hours all the terrorists were eliminated with a high casualty.

The NSG commandos did a very good job and they are worthy of the jublation poured upon by the onlookers. When someone is watching you performing, its more probable that you might make mistakes. its more probable to commit mistake when the whole India is watching you do something. The same goes for NSG commandoes. The nation remembers their brave efforts and their sacrifice.

I like to point a few small issues that could be deadly. With Delhi jamia Encounter Inspector M C Sharma was killed just because of the fact that they didnt wear bullet Proof jackets(kevlar Vests). Its the normal practise that many soldiers are ready to give their lives for their single general or other top official(courtesy saving private ryan). Yet here we see the top officials dare to enter the Hotzone without much protection for themselves. Its a big loss for our country and for the police dept. We cant loose brave and good people like that.
The NSG commandos could have better organised the raid. Its very hard for them to even cordon as the terrorist kept moving from place to place. I could remember a scenario in band of brothers where the Commanders command their men to learn the map. Knowing the layout of the Hotel could make the NSG to literally roundup the terrorist.

Many people have indicated that we do not have enough laws to prevent terrorist strike. No matter how many laws we have, these terrorists are going to break all of them. No matter how much laws we have, the mumbai terror attacks could not be prevented without arming better training the police.

I will term Black Tornado as a successful mission and all the defense forces involving in eliminating the threat did a very good job.

Nisha's outburst

Its quite funny for the Tamil weather persons to name the cyclones just like the Americans do. These cyclones have been a continuous nuisance to our state. But still we have to depend on the rains for our growth. My friend has covered a lot of issues relating to the floods and the damage Nisha caused. I just want to add a few steps that can be taken to prevent the damage in the future.

First a survey of area which are susceptible to flood has to be identified. This is one of the most tedious job. And also try to find the population density in these regions. The above specified process can take a lot of time. So the government might not find it that important. This process could be taken by Media or other private organisations.

Then the government should analyze the survey and mark areas that are frequented by floods as say RED ZONE. The people residing in these areas should be vacated and given safe places which are in the GREEN zone(no floods). The farmers should be advised of the crops they have to grow in the rainy season and make sure not much loss is incurred to the farmers. Its better not to cultivate in the area which is near the rivers.

Information of possible flood should be conveyed before in the RED ZONE so that people have time to take precautionary actions. There is nothing to prevent the falling of trees on the road. To prevent that would require a tedious task.

The careful planning and action of the government could reduce the damages caused by these floods in the future. Hope we have safe place to live in.

Is it Safe?

Whenever we come across a situation or object, we might ask the question "Is it safe?". And We live in this earth. And as per the scientists it is believed that human beings are living in the same earth since the beginning. But is our earth safe? We might look around and we can say that there might be no danger around. But the fact is that we are surrounded by dangers in all sides. Let us look at an atom for example. Of the 108(or 110) elements many are harmful to us and it can even kill us. If an atom breaks, the energy released is extremely harmful to man. Yet we survive everyday and we have never witnessed such natural destruction in our life.

Lets see what are the other dangers that surround us. Look at all the surroundings... we have 3 forms of matter. Solid, liquid , gas. We live on land. well some might say that there are few who live on snow. That isnt a big issue. It is believed that only 3% of the land in earth is inhabitable. The rest are rainforests, ice caps or deserts.

I recently saw the most ecofriendly house to be built for a cost of 14000 pounds. Speaking of which i can remember a story from Bible about the difference between the house built on the rock and sand. The house was built in 3 huge containers with almost everything we require in our life. The real distressing fact about that house was that it didnot have a foundation making it easier to fall prey for any kind of natural disasters. I would prefer to live in a high tech car or van instead of such a house.

Though the land is safe for habitation, its not entirely safe. The land itself are dangerous to man. When the faults in the rock weakens resulting in earthquakes and landslides which are dangerous to man. The same thing is true for Water. we cant survive without water. I was once asked this riddle in my school days.
You swallow it and live. If it swallows you, then you die
The answer is water. Though we cant survive without water, water is still dangerous to humans. Eg Tsunami, floods etc. So is air. We cant live without air for more than 20 minutes but tornadoes, cyclones, hurricanes are dangerous. All these events might happen by chance but it doesn't happen everyday. we really dont know when they will occur. We can just identify the level of disaster only after it occurs.

We might say that the energy we get might be safe. But there are equal dangers in that to. I will discuss about electromagnetic energy and sound as they are most commonly used energy. Powerful radio waves can produce harmful effects in human. Microwaves can cause unusual perceptions and prolonged exposure could be dangerous. The light is dangerous to Man(LASER). The infrared radiations dehydrate the body and eventually is dangerous. The ultraviolet radiations can be utilized by the skin to produce vitamin D. But prolonged exposure or harmful UV rays can cause cancer. The xrays- gamma rays are extremely dangerous and there are just a few uses.

We use sound to communicate to our friends. But nowadays we are becoming silent. We use IM, sms and many other forms of silent communication methods. But sound is also equally dangerous to Humans. The infrasonic sounds can cause a feeling of anguish, fear nausea, etc and high decibel sound produced in a certain frequency in IF can kill the humans. The animal organs are designed to resonate at such a low frequency that high decibel sounds of such lower frequency isn't emitted by any natural phenomenon. It is literally impossible to say that this phenomenon could happen by chance.

The animals that lives with us and around us are afraid of humans yet they could be dangerous. Certain plants could also be dangerous. We eat food to live. Even the food itself can become harmful to man.

Its literally impossible to say that we came into this world by chance when we live surrounded by dangers all around us and literally ignore them all the days of our life. I personally see its impossible to ignore god when i look at His creations. Let Glory be to god Who loves us even though we might be sinners and is longing for us to return to him.

Geiger Counter - best days

I did my schooling in zion matriculation school. During my final year in school, we had a day free as the professionals from the kalpakkam power plant came to our school to help us understand the aspects of radioactivity and the usuage of geiger counter which measures the radioactivity. It was August 1, 2003. I couldnt remember much of the happenings on the day but i do remember two things.

We were taken to some room, where they had radioactive material and they were demonstrating the usage of geiger counter. As usual, in the room, we made a noise. And the guy who was doing the experiment told us to keep quiet. He then continued the experiments and demonstrated how radioactivity was measured. The usually measured reading was in 1000s. And we took a few readings and the guy told us to do the calculations which we never did. He also told us that prolonged exposure to radioactivity can cause us various problems in our health and ultimately death.

After that we came to class. The professors came to class and explained about a theory.( i really dont know which was first: The theory or the experimentation) I could remember a question i asked them. If there is some problem in the kalpakkam nuclear power plant, then how much far would the destruction reach. He asserted that there wont be any nuclear disasters as it is very safe and told us that there are lots of precautions that were taken. I insisted that even if something goes wrong(worst case scenario) how long would the destruction reach. He told that such situation would be brought under control and the destruction can be stopped in 8 KM. During those days i used to think kalpakkam was in the north of chennai. But it is in south of chennai near the seashore. They answered a lot of other questions

Time.

Its a well known fact that time has seconds as one of the smallest measure. The Pendulum was the first instrument to measure second. There are other lower measures of time like nano seconds.

Minutes, hours, days weeks, month, years are the other ways to denote the passage of time. All of them are usual except for a week and month.

The revolving of the moon around the earth could almost take a month and that could be the reason of the origin of Month. I could remember the school days when i was taught the number of days in a month(30 or 31) based on the position of knuckles.

Because there isnt much significance in a week and month as per scientific issues but still its widely accepted. The other important aspect is that we rest(or given holiday) once in a week. the only solution we can get to know about week is in holy books of Hindu, Muslim and christianity(and also Jews) and may be even in Chinese ancient literatures. The most oldest claim of a week could(may) be in bible(and torah) which starts with a week and offcourse it says about the rest day(sabath). We can say that in a day the earth rotates once and in a year the earth revolves around the sun. But we cant say any such thing for a week except that we can see seven palnets in the night sky. i havent tried that though.

Lets get to other important events(on time) that might come in a year: A leap Year and a leap Second. We all know about the leap year. The rotation of the earth is slowing down at some rate each day. It is not a constant rate at which it slows down. So inorder to keep the time accurate, they observe a leap second in a day. There were 23 occasions from 1972 where a leap second was annnounced or introduced in a year.

Equinox are the days when the the earth has 12 hours of day and 12 hours of night. And the shortest day (winter solstice)and longest day (summer solstice)are either july 20-23 or december 20-23 depending on the hemisphere. Solar eclipse and lunar eclipse are two special phenomenon that might come in a year. But they dont have any significance in the time scale in earth.

Encounters With Dogs!!!

Dogs are the best pet which never bites(ahem) anyone! At least i never got one. Its really interesting to find posters like "Beware Of Dog" but not anything like "Beware of Cats" or rats or squrriels etc.. Well i am gonna say my personal experience with dogs.

The first time i got scared of a dog was when i was in first standard. My dad told me not to look afraid or run. only then the dogs will chase. We used to play with the dogs in my uncle's house. They had two dogs. So i lost the fear of dogs.

But there are a few incidents i encountered. I used to goto take 2 buses to goto school everyday. And at times its more important to run to board a bus. And there are quite a few street dogs on the road. And the problem is if a dog see you running then it might chase you. And that happened once. The dogs run faster than us. And it barked at me chasing me. So i had to slow down a bit. The street dogs often barks and do not bite anyone. The pet dogs usually does both.

My uncle came to stay in our house for a month or so and that time we had 3 dogs. And thats when i was almost bitten by the second oldest dog when i tried to lift it with its stomach.

Recently when i went to tuticorin, my uncle there had a dog. If u rub the neck(not too hard or it will start to bite) it will feel very comfortable for a dog. I did that and as soon as i finished it it started to bark at me.

A few weeks back, as i was walking along a road, a dog started barking at me when i was about 50 meters ahead of me. And it was a pet dog which wasnt chained but big enough to scare anyone. I got a bit scared. I couldnt see any one who appear to be the owner of the dog. Whenever i see a dog, I just ignore it. But this time it was different. I cant run and do anything. All i did was just proceed forward as if ignoring the dog. When i walked past the dog, the dog was still barking at me and started to follow me. And thats the time someone started to call the yell "Tommy ignae va". Thank god. I never knew where the dog was until it tounched my fingers. Thats so close.
