Feeling bored... Posting it Just to kill time...
Movies are the favorite time pass for almost every youth around the world. It has brought story presentation to its very realism. Right from romance to war! And directors are earning in millions. Some movies would cost more than 100m to film where as a few others would not even cost a million. Is it really worth millions??? A few of such movies have won Oscar awards(off course not Indian movies).
We indians, boast of a movie if it was just nominated. I could hardly remember a movie winning an Oscar. When we see the theme of the movies in india, it is often romantic movies. With the major ttheater viewers being bunking college students, the directors are often in the postion to attract these youths to watch their movies rather than making some attempt to change them. But many people go to theaters irrespective of the theme.
Youths also listen to the song. The music of each songs is what they always expect. But nowadays we can see that some songs have nasty wordings often insulting feminine gender. Whereas I always like to hear a few songs which have very good meaning.
Nowadays as the directors are just money minded, the quality of these movies keeps dropping and they just concentrate on how to attract the crowd but ignore what the movie imposes on the public. What i would like is that movies should have inspirational stories. Should promote patriotic feelings and also brotherly love instead of husband/wife love. Patriotic doesnt mean that to create a story on Gandhi or Nehru and praise them. Even during Independence day we can see only those romantic movies on TV rather than any patriotic movies.
What the movies can do to the society is not being done, but what it should not do that is being done. Lets just hope that the theme and style of Indian movies get changed and lets hope that we can win one oscar

Well, its not that good Indian movies are not made, its just that it doesn't get as much attention as it deserves.
And the Oscars is not the only International Award Festival. And its quite difficult to really appreciate a good movie by reading the just the subtitles. Also they dont quite relate to our Indian scenarios and situations. Like say a movie on dowry will invoke hardly any response from the Western crowd. Also imagine urself to having to judge the best film out of a hundred German and Spanish films. Wont it be miserable...? all the time u will be just reading the subtitles, and missing out on the movie itself..!!
But still some good cinema have won International awards. I cant remember them all but some of them are Monsoon Wedding, which won the Best picture at Venice film festival as well as the Golden Globes. Lagey Raho Munnabhai won at the Cannes.
Even Partuthiveeran, Raam an many other tamil films have got a good number of International awards. So on and so forth... Several other Indian language movies win many award but we hardly know of it... Its very sad.
And yes... the movies which win awards are those that are off the track.. like Brokeback Mountain.. a movie about gay relationship... which won many awards at the Oscars including best director i think. If u make a movie like that in India, first of all, who will act in it? And also if someone boldly decides to act, the whole country will turn to arms , burning theaters, effigy, throwing holy cow dung on the actor/director's house etc etc...
So in India if u make a movie, u have to be careful of political religious and social messages that u wish to convey. If u see all that, then the only movies that u can make is of romantic ones ( but not too much of romance, or beware the sensor board ).
As for TZP is concerned, i wish it wins the Oscar. Even if doesnt it does not make it any lesser a movie. Its a beautiful film, for all ages, and according to me its already a winner...!
'Some movies would cost more than 100m to film where as a few others would not even cost a million. Is it really worth millions??? '
No, but as far as I've heard such 'mega mass' movies are produced to change the 'black' money to 'white' money. The budget of the movie may be say some 100crores. So even if the producer gets back only 50crores, he is getting it as 'white money'..
'A few of such movies have won Oscar awards(off course not Indian movies)'
heheheh..
'..theme of the movies in india, it is often romantic movies..'
Such movies are easier to make. One 'mass' hero, one 'glam doll' heroine, one villain who speaks tamil like telugu, one comedian by the hero's side till hero picks up heroine, five kuththu songs, six unrealistic fights with slow-motion kicks... movie over!
'..But many people go to theaters irrespective of the theme..'
Not really. Theme is important. You wouldnot wanna get caught in a 'mega-serial' kinda movie..
'What i would like is that movies should have inspirational stories. Should promote patriotic feelings and also brotherly love instead of husband/wife love.'
hahah.. love is love! :D
Again taking the 'theme' of the movie in to account, we'll not go to such movies. Even patriotic movies need a romantic touch in it to attract people.
'Even during Independence day we can see only those romantic movies on TV rather than any patriotic movies.'
There are only about a dozen of such movies. Can't telecast it again and again. But our people don complain watching 'padayappa' monthly twice...

@aslam:
Oscar isnt always about the story. There are about 15 awards. Like best sound ediion, best filming, best actor which has nothing to do with story but the individual's performance.(am i Wrong?)
I agree with the others
@bang:
I couldnt understand black and white money.
Having romantic touch isnt a big deal. having movies like patriotism with romance is much better than romantic movies.
@aslam: The judges have to follow the story of the movie only to understand the theme and direction.(am i wrong?)
of course all that is important but ultimately its about how everything goes together well... Like how can an actor get "Best actor" while acting in a lousy script..?? So everything has to be fairly good in order to win an award...
The story is the central idea on which everything else will build on... that the way in international movies... In India however, the music may be a hit, but the movie may be a flop...
And yes, u r right, the judges have to understand the story to be able to be impressed. But the western audience wont be able to understand our Indian ideas so easily... That too while reading the subtitles will be even more difficult... or at least will take time to understand it...
Also when they are busy reading the subtitles, will they really be able to appreciate the sound, editing, lighting etc..???
Well judges might be very experienced in hose aspects :) may be they were watching a english dubbed movie :D
i cant think about watching tamil movies dubbed in english :D
